Your committee type affects what appears on your compliance reports. The type is set in the Committee Info section of the filer’s Organization record, and some types also depend on records linked in the Relationships section. Below are the available committee types and what each one needs. If you are not sure which type applies to your committee, check with your filing agency, since ISP cannot advise on how your committee should be classified.
Candidate Committee
- Committee Type in Committee Info: Candidate
- Link the candidate’s Individual record in Relationships as Candidate, marked as Primary for the filer
- The candidate’s record needs Office Sought or Office Held, Jurisdiction, and District Number filled in
- For a controlled committee, also check the Controlled box in Committee Info
General Purpose Committee
- The filer must have no record linked in Relationships as Supported Candidate or Opposed Candidate
- If the Controlled box is checked in Committee Info, but the committee is not controlled, uncheck it
Primarily Formed Candidate or Officeholder Committee
- Link at least one Individual record in Relationships as Supported Candidate or Opposed Candidate
- The linked candidate’s record needs Office Sought filled in
Primarily Formed Ballot Measure Committee
- Committee Type in Committee Info: Ballot Measure
- Create the Ballot Measure record with its Letter or Number and Jurisdiction filled in
- Link the Ballot Measure in Relationships as Ballot Measure Supported or Ballot Measure Opposed
Sponsored Committee
- Check the Sponsored box in Committee Info
- Link the sponsoring entity’s record in Relationships as Sponsor, and fill in the Organization Industry if appropriate
Small Contributor Committee
- Committee Type in Committee Info: Small Contributor Committee
- When generating the report, enter the date the committee reached the qualification threshold in the SCC Qualification Date field on the Report Generation Screen
Political Party Committee
- Committee Type in Committee Info: Party
