What Is the Form 2 and When Do I File It?

Applies To: Federal Election Commission – Candidate Committees

The FEC Form 2 is used to register new candidates once they exceed the applicable threshold. This form must be filed within 15 days of becoming a candidate.

The triggers for becoming a candidate are:

  • Receiving contributions -OR- making expenses aggregating in excess of $5,000
  • If you’ve given consent to another person to receive contributions or make expenditures on your behalf and such person has received contributions -OR- made expenses aggregating in excess of $5,000
  • If you are doing both, if contributions received -OR- expenditures made in either method described above when added together exceeds $5,000.

NOTE:
You must also file your FEC Form 1 (Statement of Organization) within 10 days of filing your Form 2.
