Early donors are important to any campaign, but sometimes they need to be reminded that you’ll still need money after the Primary.
There a lot of ways you could use to find out who made contributions during the Primary but forgot about the General. The easiest way, though, is to use Advanced Search.
Using Advanced Search, you can set specific search criteria that lets you find exactly what you’re looking for.
The first step is selecting the search fields so that you have Area: Contributions; Field: Election; Relationships: Is Any Of; and Value: P-2018.
Hit Add Rule.
The Value can be whatever year or agency you have your account set up for like CA G-2018 or ME P-2022. Just make sure it has a P in front of the year to designate the search term as Primary.
Next, set the search fields to Area: Contributions; Field: Election; Relationships: Is Any Of; and Value: G-2018.
This time, hit Add as Exclusion. This will remove any donors that have made a contribution during the General.
Again, the value can be whatever year or agency you’re looking at. Just make sure it has a G for General.
At this point, your search criteria will look like this and you can hit Run Search. You’ll get a list of all donors who made contributions during the Primary but not the General.
Sometimes the reason why someone wouldn’t donate again during the General is that they’ve already maxed out. In that case, just add another Rule that says Area: Contributions; Field: Amount; Relationship: Is Less Than; and set Value to the contribution limit.
Hit Add Rule and your search will only include donors who haven’t maxed out.
If you’re planning on running this specific search frequently, be sure to save it as one of your Saved Searches! It’s much simpler than having to remember and set up the search every time.
